Advent, in some ways, came early this year. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us all into a season of self-examination way back in March. We’ve had nine months to figure out how to make straight the way of the Lord, and during that fearful and challenging time, our congregations have responded with creativity, bravery and grace.
For that reason, I am directing all proceeds from this year’s Bishop’s Appeal to congregations that are either developing new initiatives or strengthening existing ministries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please give generously so we can support these vital efforts in our congregations and communities.
From the outset of the pandemic, congregations across the Dioceses of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania have made innovative and spontaneous adjustments to continue the work to which God has called them. We have adapted our facilities, gained new technical skills, mastered new software and equipment, and even learned to Zoom. Through the Bishop’s Appeal, we can continue helping congregations across our region withstand the spiritual and financial rigors of the pandemic and emerge ready to help our communities respond and rebuild.
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of the Messiah, please join me in making a generous gift to the Bishop’s Appeal. With your support, our congregations can continue to be a source of light to our communities, and joy to our world.
