Seeing Jesus in the Fullness of His Life Among Us: A Sermon by Canon Twila Smith

“For us to be fully present with the passion of the upcoming Holy Week, I believe it takes our coming to see Jesus in the fullness of his life among us; not just in historical terms but in our present too,” said Canon Twila Smith in her sermon for the Fifth Sunday in Lent. “To see Jesus in despair over injustice, hate crimes, gun violence, attacks on race and gender, the shootings targeting Asian Americans in Atlanta this week. To prepare for the lifting up of Jesus, I believe takes seeing him in our sorrows and struggles and confusion, in our search for clarity, searching for right responses, actions for the challenges of our own day.”
