In Memoriam: Nancy Lou Betts Bowman

Dear People of God:

I am sorry to share the news that Nancy Lou Betts Bowman, widow of Bishop David Bowman, ninth bishop of Western New York, died this morning after a long illness.

Nancy, who was born in Findlay, Ohio, met David at the Church of the Epiphany in Euclid, Ohio, when he was assistant rector there in the early 1960s. They were married in 1962, and lived in Ohio and Massachusetts before David was elected bishop of Western New York in 1986. After he retired in 1999, they lived in Shaker Heights, Ohio, spending summers at their beloved lakeside camp in Rangeley, Maine. They were active at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland. After David died in 2015, Nancy lived at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio.

Nancy is survived by her three children, Ann of Cleveland, Ohio, William (Georgine) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sarah Bowman Workman (Jason) of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as two granddaughters, Abigail Bowman and Lucy Workman. Due to the pandemic, funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Condolences may be sent to 3155 Scarborough Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, 44118.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Nancy, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Faithfully,
