Diocese to Hold Joint Summer Camp August 7-13

From August 7-13, the Dioceses of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania will hold a joint summer camp at Camp Nazareth in Mercer, Pennsylvania. This marks the first year that the partnership dioceses have shared a summer camp.

The camp will take place in August, when the Diocese of Western New York has traditionally held its camp, and take place at Camp Nazareth, which has been home to the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania’s summer camp since the facility opened in 1979. Although Camp Nazareth is owned by the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania has invested in its facilities and infrastructure over the years, and it is able to accommodate the large Episcopal camp that diocesan leaders anticipate.

The Rev. Matthew Scott of the Episcopal Mission of Warren County in the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Wendy Schumacher, partnership missioner for youth and children, led the discussions about combining summer camps, consulting with leaders in both dioceses.

“Partnering our camps is something we have been wanting to do since we became a partnership, and this summer, we are able to work it out,” Schumacher said. “We are looking forward to being all together this summer!”
