Congratulations to Bishop-elect Ruth Woodliff-Stanley: A Message from Bishop Sean

Dear Friends:

I am delighted to report that, just a few minutes ago, Canon Ruth Woodliff-Stanley was elected the XV Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina. God willing and the people consenting, she will be ordained and consecrated on October 2 in Charleston.

Ruth, who has served our diocesan partnership as canon for strategic change since 2019, will bring considerable experience and gifts to her ministry as bishop. In recent times, after many years in parish ministry, she has been canon to the ordinary in the Diocese of Colorado, senior vice president of the Episcopal Church Building Fund, and a canon here in our partnership. In all of these roles, Ruth has used her deep spiritual insight, strong pastoral gifts, and well-honed understanding of organizations and systems to lead the church toward a future that is still unfolding. I have no doubt that the people of the Diocese of South Carolina, who have lived through so much turmoil and pain in recent years, will be healed and richly blessed by her episcopacy.

I look forward to sharing with you more news about Ruth’s ordination and consecration when the details are available, and I especially look forward to welcoming her as a colleague in the House of Bishops. If you would like to reach Ruth to offer your congratulations, you can do so via email.

Faithfully,
